A Struggle in Boscombe Town

The regulars took their place in the side for the return to the league after the three week cup competition, Nick in goal previously moved into outfield as Doug retook his position in goal once again. Oscar, A. Muppet and Fozzie all unavailable.

First Half

The match was off to a flier as Gonzo blocking out the downfield pass enables Kermit and Beaker to send in Swedish Chef on goal, his shot is saved though should have done better. Pressure by Kermit and Gonzo, enables Big Bird to find Chef free in the opposing half however a pass into Beaker is cut out after not seeing the defender early enough. AFC Boscome have a shot of their own however the wrong side of the post it rolls luckily enough, some cheeky tactics of barging Doug over on a set piece went unnoticed as another glorious shot was scuppered after a neat touch. Beaker attempted a chip over the keeper at the other end, it was well covered by the keeper as it went over.

After Doug made a save to concede a corner, poor marking on the corner allows one of the two defenders to score from range.

In what was a crazy few minutes Swedish Chef had a tame effort stopped by the AFC Boscombe keeper, Gonzo almost there for a follow up. Moments later a glorious opportunity was scuppered, the defender having been dispossed by Beaker enabled a two on one counter attack situation. With Gonzo delaying his pass and Chef being too far forward instead of level and missed with a poor take of the pass the distance between ball and keeper gave him a much easier save to make than it should have been. Big Bird coming forward from the back at the kick in struck a sweet shot agonisingly past the post just a few seconds later. Down the other end and AFC Boscombe had a bit of action with a shot off target with the net gaping, Doug clearing his lines puts in Swedish Chef with Gonzo awaiting the cross the pass is scooped over the bar.

A slightly better attack came from the headed clearance of Nick, Gonzo and Swedish Chef linked up to get in behind the defence, Gonzo's chipped pass is scuffed clear by the goalkeeper allowing Gonzo to attempt a quick shot in the direction of goal, heading for Chef the ball is nipped off the defender and through his legs. Beaker pounced on a midfielder who tried to keep the ball from going out darted down the wing, however his cross was too close to the keeper and snuffed out. Beaker again on the ball by another headed clearance from the cross courtesy of Nick threads it through both defenders, Chef fails to trap the ball as it rolls to the keeper. As the assault continues the goalkeeper for AFC Boscombe was saving all Swedish Chef's shots, though he could have done much better in his finishing every shot was on target and shut out, as was what happened in his fourth shot on goal put in again by a Beaker interception and pass. His fifth was saved at close range, a left footed shot wrapped around the ball from Beaker's cross. It was not going in the back of the net for Cillit Bang FC.

Punishment for not equalising after some intense pressure on goal resulted in going two goals behind. The cross blocked by Nick fell kindly for the opposition player, Doug made a great save but could not stop the follow up. Nick charges forward immediately at the end of the half, after cutting past the oncoming tackle his shot is straight at Swedish Chef, reacting he shoots at close quarters for another save which almost falls for Kermit as the half time whistle blows.

Second Half

Sensing a second half of fresh opportunuites to create and get back in the match, CBFC were dominant in possession with Kermit, Gonzo and Big Bird playing higher than usual. Shots from Swedish Chef, Big Bird and Gonzo with a close attempt at goal. So it was inevitable would score the first goal of the half and that was AFC Boscombe, slightly loose marking enables the defender to come forward from the back and score his second from outside the box.

Back on the attack and the Chef had his first off target shot of the game, moments later from the kick in Gonzo's shot just outside the box through the defender's legs was kept out by the goalkeeper yet again. Doug made some strong saves, one heading for the top corner and rescuing the team after a three on one situation. AFC Boscombe could not find a way inside the box, as they causing havoc from lofted balls into the box and long range shots which Doug at times dealt with dangerously, heading and kicking away balls to be caught. Nick was blocking every cross and pass the came his way allowing the rest to attack, but as the game grew on the chances were becoming harder to create and therefore any hope of a comeback was virtually unlikely.

Goal 1-2 // 14 Kermit - Assist 17 Swedish Chef

After numerous blocks by Nick a blocked cross/shot from the kick in was scooped out to Swedish Chef. Trying to pick out the darting forward run from Kermit he tries to lift the ball into his path, though the ball is not as accurate the defender struggles to stop it allowing Kermit to control the ball quickly for him to shoot past the oncoming keeper.

The AFC Boscombe goalkeeper had saved so many shots on the night he had played a massive part in them beating Cillit Bang FC for the second time of the season, their only two wins to date.
