Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
An unfortunate own goal from a cross off Kermit's chest paved the way for a defeat. Never too despondent as the work had already been done leading up to the match leaving a somewhat empty match in terms of effort but an abundance of misfortunate luck was too hard to believe. Chef had a shot on another day he would of buried, Hoss became unlucky after a great defensive tackle landed nicely for the striker to score. Countless little pieces of luck favoured the opposition in the early period... it was just one of those days. Hoss on his second time appearance this season had three defenders in stitches as he held the ball on the edge of the area till a lovely pass into A. Muppet, in a great position he mistimes his flick shot. Further misfortune as a shot deflects upwards off the ground to make Fozzie's save awkward that loops kindly across the line for a tap in.
Penalty Appeal - CBFC
Shots from A. Muppet were blocked with the hands of the defender, the referee saw no reason to give the penalty after serious appeals from both Kermit and A. Muppet.
Frankly the luck was getting ridiculous as on one hand Kermit's first time shot on a corner is saved on the line where on the other the defender surging forward (allowed to come forward too easily) after a tackle from Hoss rebounds firstly off the hand of the opposition and then falling very kindly for the finish, a clear free kick was not given and the extra piece of fortune was hard to take. Although nothing could be said about the next goal, hacking away and diving in conceded a free kick... Big Bird pulled his foot up and away from the wall, right from the trajectory path of the shot.
Gonzo coming up for the corner had a free header inside the near post, hit back past the post the header let him down. That was the story of the half, bad finishing had cost CBFC while bad luck weaved itself the other way.
CBFC start the half brightly as the ball is worked around the pitch, Kermit trolling the wing slipping a ball inside providing Gonzo a great chance at the shot which subsequently is blocked, Beaker keeps the ball alive feeding in Gonzo again for another blocked shot. As the ball goes down the other end, after some initial nuts on Chef he gets back and gives the striker no chance as he takes him down clearing the ball. Moments later another goal is conceded after a kick is headed clear by Beaker but as Kermit closes in on the loose ball first in front of the opposition player he somehow deflects the ball into the scorer's path. Second half lead is doubled when a ball out of pressure evades both Kermit and Gonzo as the defender mops up the ball to string a nice pass through Hoss and Beaker to score again. The confidence of the two teams was playing a major part now with momentum on the opposing side in abundance.
Hoss had his chance to score but lady luck was not on his side after the (normally killer) deflection had wrong-footed the keeper, sadly slipped the wrong side of the post. How any team could have so much bad luck was beyond anything, Hoss cuts out the hoof clearance forward, Beaker slips the pass through to Swedish Chef's run, controlling the ball around the defender the left footed shot is stopped point blank by the keeper, good play is rewarded with you... guessed it, goal conceded !?! Fozzie was not enjoying his evening, this shot whistling centimetres painfully past his hands. The silver lining would clearly be that it would be a long time away until this sort of match would happen again, if it even did! The performances of all Cillit Bang FC players had increased so dramatically that bad results were kept to a minimum.
Hoss forward again on an attack had a shot kept out by bad defending, even the miss-timed block still found the keeper.
Yellow Card - 17 Swedish Chef
Pressure from Hoss, A. Muppet and Beaker amounted to endless clearances, annoyed by the way the match had gone an instinctive handball was conceded, to make matters worse Swedish Chef cleared the ball out of the park in an attempt to time waste (around 4 minutes) but what would you expect from a team losing the match. The referee having none of it produces to the ungentlemanly Chef his first career yellow card. Captain Kermit protests about the earlier handball to no avail. Not bothered by going in the book his 'unsporting behaviour' went exactly as planned disrupting the opposition flow and ending the scoring there and then after CBFC players were full of some passion in the last quarter in an attempt to dent the opponent's egos.
Penalty Appeal - CBFC
Both sides had chances in the final few minutes, Beaker doing some excellent defensive work. After Kermit intercepts a pass Swedish Chef was unlucky not to score or even win a penalty, the keeper sliding in to make the save could and should have resulted in a penalty. Another foul was not given outside the area, fine work from Gonzo winning the ball in the vicinity of the big striker, as Chef turns first time around the defender he is hacked at and the clearance a second later did not warrant any play being brought back strangely enough.
The score did not reflect the shots tally, both teams sharing an almost identical shots total. Funnily enough A. Muppet had shots in this game almost equal to his entire season total, showing how bizarre the match had become. Although the team had lost and not scored there was positives in the attacking section compared to the previous match against Smack My Pitch Up where the shots were limp. An indication to the continued team development as the seventh season awaits.
