Knocked out of Cup

There was a plethora of changes today including non appearances for Oscar, Rizzo, A. Muppet, Fozzie and Doug meaning a sub goalie (Nick) was drafted in by Big Bird, old teammate Long (Animal) was back for a one off match in a must win (or possible draw) game to progress through the group stages of this season's cup competition.

First Half

First proper shot on goal was taken by Alliance Utd, sat on top of the table with six points, the ball poked to the side of Big Bird was placed in the corner. The better pressure came from Cillit Bang FC though they struggled to get close enough to shoot with any proper conviction. Gonzo was clearly foulled but ignored, the free kick opportunity denied and Big Bird trying to replicate his long range shot earlier in the cup campaign shot wide. Things almost worse, Kermit intercepts but can not keep control of the ball from the goalkick, as the first goalscorer is passed to out wide he manages move towards goal to tip the ball past the near post unchallenged.

Things did get worse, after a cross and poke in the goal from the first goalscorer to double scores, he immediately got his hattrick after some poor tackling from Beaker and Big Bird. The third goal was controversial after 2 clear fouls on both Swedish Chef and Gonzo by the same player within seconds would have stopped the match any further for some rightful free kicks, Gonzo wasn't impressed.

Four nil down, CBFC were struggling, Alliance Utd took advantage of their fortunate luck and were on a high as they scored from a tap in.

Goal 1-4 // Long - Assist 17 Swedish Chef

Cillit Bang FC went on the offensive, Long down the wing is dispossessed, Swedish Chef picks up the ball before it goes out for a corner, and slips the ball scross the box through the defenders legs for Long to prod the ball into the net.

The score gap went back to four after a series of strong saves from the new goalie, however a cross and tap in could not be avoided as the match went too far out of reach to salvage any kind of point.

Swedish Chef put a cross in to Long which was snuffed out and was a whisker away from going in on goal at the end of the half as a lacklustre half in attack was evident, one shot one goal from Long was all that could be mustered.

Second Half

Alliance Utd had a hatfull of shots very high/wide early doors in the second half. Beaker attempting to flick the ball around the oncoming defender gives chase to his own goal but to his displeasure the shot is easily scored after the goalkeeper goes to ground anticipating a low cross.

Goal 2-6 // 14 Kermit - Assist 5 Gonzo

All team get a touch of the ball in a decent passing move, Big Bird sends the ball out wide to Gonzo, Gonzo passes back to Beaker who manages to do a one two with the referess back before passing back to Gonzo, under two immediate challenges he pokes it to Kermit, controlling the ball well he places his well taken shot into the far post.

Alliance Utd could have scored themselves had it been for a bit more composure in front of the goal, the direct ball into the box falling nicely for a shot on goal barely a few yards out, Big Bird putting his goalie under pressure. However CBFC take full advantage.

Goal 3-6 // 5 Gonzo

After Swedish Chef fails a simple pass to the upcoming goalscorer, Gonzo blocks the pass from the last defender and takes an early long range shot despite being one on one with the keeper and strikes it cleanly into the bottom right corner for his first goal of the season.

Alliance Utd responded luckily by scoring from a free kick deep in the Cillit Bang FC corner after a favourable run of the ball fell to the striker in the box, a bit too kind as the tackle in the first place was a fair one perhaps looking rash. Kermit taking a quick kick in for Swedish Chef, his turn was bulldozed out of possession by the defender without touching the ball, still no fouls going CBFC's way.

Gonzo and Swedish Chef linked up, with the chest down for the goal kick, Chef beats a player, his cross is narrowly missed out on by Gonzo for the tap in, within the minute they work a shooting opportunity which is blocked. Going for goals Big Bird was isolated at times in defense, on the only real dangerous counter attack, getting back to help out Chef can only force the attacker to pass instead of the free shot, however the goalscorer who has already scored four times cannot strike the ball on target at the open goal. One which a toddler would have a hard time missing, obviously he was not on the ball enough and Chef is quickest to react and clears it. Another chance comes a couple of minutes after the previous dismal effort on goal and a similar situation with another attacker put through from a cross, but finds the only part of the goal where the keeper is from a yard out, good save by Nick. Beaker clears for a kick in and then ball watches by letting his marked player get a free header on goal, but thankfully for Beaker he cannot hit the barn door.

Big Bird gets a final crack at goal but hits it wide, and so Cillit Bang FC were knocked out of this season's cup competition at the league stage in a disappointing match. Some new scorers on the night with Long and Gonzo scoring their first of the season and Kermit back to scoring ways. Alliance Utd could of scored more than ten due to the kamikazing defending of CBFC had they been able to finish at least half decent, but the very poor finishing would surely cost them in much harder games to come. CBFC's lack of defense had to happen after finding themselves 4-0 down after a short period of time but an uninspiring performance in general.
