Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
A good start to the season was needed if there were any aspirations for a better finish in the league and perhaps promotion, with the four teams finishing above CBFC all getting promoted, the incentive was there. It was Swedish Chef who would get the first chance of the season, Rizzo and Beaker feeding him the service a save and shot wide was just the start. Stur Crazy showed what they do best passing the ball around the pitch numerous times yet struggled to really find any opening, a miscued shot going wide the only real danger.
Goal 1-0 (Beaker's 25th) // 4 Beaker - Assist 17 Swedish Chef
Beaker starts and ends the move tackling back and receiving the ball back from Big Bird, a pass out wide allows Chef and Kermit to combine outside the box, the setup through the defenders legs to Beaker with enough time to slot home the first goal of the season. That goal brings Beaker's goal tally up to a quarter of a century.
Stur Crazy almost hit back with another passing move, on the counter Kermit disappointed in himself with a skied effort when on goal out wide. Chef was perhaps a little fortunate when shutting out a cross, with Fozzie preventing it go out of play for a corner, appeals for a pass-back were denied and rightly so. Gonzo reacted quickly to a kick in setting up Chef for a shot on goal just kept out as it whizzed past the post a corner was not given, his luck not in as further quality service from his teammates this time from Rizzo on the outside, the first time shot came crashing off the post. Rizzo on the follow up turning his body gave the keeper a whack to the head. Surprisingly it had taken a while for Rizzo to get his shooting underway for the season, A. Muppet did excellently winning the ball dashing across the pitch before lofting a ball into Rizzo for a skewed shot wide.
For all the ball retention Stur Crazy could not find a way through and were lucky not to find themselves down a few more goals, it took until the ninth minute when Fozzie was called into action pushing wide the long range effort.
Goal 2-0 // 12 Rizzo - Assist 4 Beaker
A Beaker kick in swung in is met with a neatly cushioned header from unmarked Rizzo despite the defender's attempt to handball the cross.
Goal 2-1 // Stur Crazy
A move to get back into the game results in a shot wide of the top corner, on the other side a good move from the lads in blue has Kermit fighting to work himself a shot, however on the counter the earlier substitution and reshuffle in personnel is exploited for the goal right on the stroke of half-time, a bad time to concede.
Beaker first to the ball into the danger area breaks forward evading two players, exchanging a one two with Kermit and aiming for the far side of the net the keeper's touch slowed it down enough for the defender to clear up. On the resulting kick in a poor pass leaves the team open to a counter attack, Fozzie on the edge of the area smothers the shot, gets back up again diving head first to make the double save off his back, A. Muppet clears the ball in what arguably was one of the pivotal moments in the match. Kermit helping out his defence with a tackle springs into attack winning a foul off the keeper's sliding tackle and winning a corner from the free kick. As the corner comes to nothing Big Bird breaks an attack up gearing for a piledriver a deflection sends the going wide shot back across goal off the post, A. Muppet shepherding the ball is knocked off balance falling onto his back, injured... he requests a substitution.
Goal 3-1 // 4 Beaker - Assist 14 Kermit
Reading the keeper's throw out to his own player Gonzo shoots first time, straight at Kermit a kind deflection falls to Beaker, coming infield he cuts in the ball into the near post with his left boot, and starting the season on fire.Stur Crazy had a great chance to get back into the match again however when in a great position a very, very poor attempt off target let down his teammates. Sandwiched in between another off target attempt in the same position with a different player CBFC had a chance of their own. Fozzie's goal kick was perfect for Swedish Chef to bring out the air for a shot, this time smashing the other post however a ball across the box / to the far post would have given either Rizzo or Kermit a great chance for a tap in. Rizzo back on from his absence tackled well, turning and heading down the line, sent in a pass with only Chef there to benefit he misread the situation, in the wrong position.
Goal 4-1 // 17 Swedish Chef - Assist 5 Gonzo
From the goal kick heads the ball to Rizzo who returns the favour back heeling onto his run, this time when the cross is sent in from Gonzo Chef rounds the defender on the blindside in making no mistake to get up and running for the season.
Goal 4-2 // Stur Crazy
The goal kick down field is partially dealt with by Beaker but under pressure the attacker gets a cross in where Fozzie gets a toe to the ball forcing it past the two attackers in the box, as the ball is laid off out the area the scorer finally manages to have a shot on target that Fozzie can't keep out.
It was the match leaders who had the chance of replying to conceding this time, Kermit first to a loose ball off A. Muppet's pass, an early ball into Chef gave him the time to turn away from the defender and poke the ball back across goal past the onrushing keeper... another goal if only for the scrambled goalline clearance.
Goal 4-3 // Stur Crazy
Some fightback as Rizzo loses possession on the halfway line and a one two from the wing cuts too easy through the CBFC defence.
Last time Beaker scored he bagged a hattrick, therefore it was not surprising when he receives the ball in the opposing half takes on a player having a go at goal, the goalie making a fine save.
Goal 5-3 // 12 Rizzo - Assist 4 Beaker
No sooner than conceding had another goal been scored. Almost identical to Rizzo's first goal, this time the other side of the pitch but a near post header off Beaker's floated kick in results in the restoration of the two goal lead and safeguarding the win with little time left. Rizzo's brace of headers takes him to the top of the heading scoring chart above Kermit.
Fozzie pulled out another cracking save from point blank range, as you would expect the final few moments were tense, a few rash tackles were made as dribbles around a few CBFC players took place yet Fozzie had already done the business. An exchange of words took place with Swedish Chef and a Stur Crazy player after he reacted to Chef's cheer as the pressure on the ball forced a wayward shot, comments on the CBFC playstyle were not in the spirit of the game, the referee sorted out the issue. On the final whistle Beaker and Chef were both away on goal after the box was full of players from the corner, however to their dismay the referee called full time. A win to get the season underway completely pushes the previous defeat to the side as the winning run continues - 5 wins out of 6 games.
