Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
A physical encounter in a demandingly hot evening provided a tough test to the start up to the second half of the league season. With Shoot Off Site having lost to 10th placed Steau Needarest a match before the incentive was there to claw points back on the original runaway on form team while more importantly keeping in touch with the promotion pack.
Neil having missed the last game got a shot off target from range but with both sides having an even share of the opportunities, AFC Boscombe had the better chances to take the lead. Fozzie saved the only shot on target while long range shots had no real trouble on the goal, the volley from a kick in was indeed the best chance but even taking a deflection off the wrong side of Big Bird the ball thumped out for a corner. A. Muppet on the other hand had more luck with his free kick than Gonzo, further out with no wall his long ranger was on target forcing the keeper into a difficult save. The physical defending from AFC Boscombe had given Kermit a knock early into the game, getting to the ball first Kermit was followed through by the opposition player resulting in a precautionary substitution. His replacement A. Muppet had closed down the Boscombe defenders playing the ball around defence, he was unlucky to find his deflection on the ball go past the wrong side of the post.
Goal 1-0 // 17 Swedish Chef - Assist 4 Beaker
Beaker on fire in his last few games setting up goals left and right nicked the ball off the Boscombe player before strutting forward playing a troublesome through ball through the defence. Having been on for 30 seconds a deep run from defence had been met with Beaker's pass, while the Boscombe player made a hash of the difficult to defend ball Swedish Chef was there to sidefoot the ball past the onrushing keeper to score with his first touch. A clash of players had left the goalkeeper the worst off between himself, his teammate and Chef. Swedish Chef's 10th goal of the season and sixth consecutive full season with double digit goalscoring figures.
With the first goal going in the game went tight with no shots forthcoming. AFC Boscombe could of had a penalty from a corner, Gonzo's tackle through the AFC Boscombe player went unnoticed by the referee, most likely deemed as having lost control of the ball and balance. Gonzo on a bit of a roll was just as physical as his opposition when his tackle on a player caused him to fall over, a la professional football he followed through on the ground making sure the AFC Boscombe midfielder did not continue towards goal. Escaping punishment from a clear yellow card, the referee said his words while awarding a free kick.
Gonzo may have gotten away with a few tackles, but so did AFC Boscombe. A firm nudge off the ball by the defender to disrupt Chef's attempt to get on Fozzie's goalkick was unseen. Moments later a far worse offense was committed when Chef had intercepted a pass, he promptly set off Big Bird on goal. The midfielder coming across kicked hard at Chef's shin giving him at best a knock which could of come off far worse. Big Bird was immediately cut off by good defending.
AFC Boscombe played a lovely move around the pitch to work the chance at equaliser on half time, the final shot was woeful at best.
CBFC were feeling shaky starting off with a lack of ball retention. AFC Boscombe pushed for the equaliser playing skillful attacking football. Fozzie was called upon to make close range saves including a potential matchwinner, a pure instinctive last minute stop to keep the ball from creeping inside the near post. Neil wanted some of the ball after having a quiet game, by blocking out the poor kick in he was away on goal. The goal was gaping however he did not seem aware of the space he had as he come under a challenge, the best he could hope for was a last second poke towards goal, keeper easily dealt with it. Kermit was forced wide when supporting with the follow up. The recovery was good, after soaking and dealing with the pressure it was Big Bird's time in the match. Controlling beautifully Gonzo's close proximity clearance over his head, he exit goalwards, gearing up for a shot the midfielder would not let him rest as Big Bird shot wide.
Goal 2-0 // 17 Swedish Chef - Assist Neil
Fozzie's goalkick bounced at just enough height to skim over the defence. Combined with Neil's slight flick on header it was enough to leave the ball between keeper and defence. With Swedish Chef being on the pitch again for just a minute he went undetected to touch the ball through the keepers legs.
Goal 3-0 // Neil - Assist 4 Beaker
Three points in the bag with another Neil header coming from Beaker's corner, no surprise there. The striker runs past his marker nodding the ball from close range to the side of the keeper. Neil keeps his scoring record up while Beaker goes one clear of Kermit in the assists tally from his recent explosive rich vein of form.
Clearly despondent after losing out on their chance Boscombe went shaky lacking ball retention. Clinical CBFC dominated a key part in the match, rewarded with their efforts and could of had more. Kermit choose to shoot from a first time ball, a difficult shot but one he usually buries.
CBFC Penalty Appeal
High pressure from Beaker and Kermit keeps the ball in Boscombe's half, winning the tackle despite the defender kicking at Kermit he comes inside for a blocked shot. Beaker is quick to tackle the next Boscombe player with the ball, as Chef turns to shoot with the ball his foot is tangled after the Boscombe player desperately tries to win the ball from behind. The referee looks to award a penalty but with Chef staying on his feet, playing on the referee draws back the whistle from his mouth.
Fozzie had little work to do, an off target shot pushed away for a corner was all that was required. Similar to his opposing counterpart Boscombe's keeper had nothing to deal with after the devastating damage was already done, Neil's long range volley was wide. The keeper was called into action on Boscombe's all out attack, Kermit's clearance was too far away from Chef but needed the keeper to come off his line to clear the ball forward. Kermit was first to react to the ball and fouled in the process, the forward getting his body in the way obstructing the number 14. With nothing given Big Bird sent the ball quickly to the left corner for Chef to pick up, good defending closed out the one on one chance.
Neil was pretty unlucky not to score a second on the evening. After a corner came pelting in a shot from a couple of yards out was smashed miles over the bar, deflected by the defender. Again right at the end Chef worked the ball down the wing upon losing the ball the midfielder passed it straight to Neil in a similar position but this time another defender was there to block the ball on the line.
Swedish Chef's 5th matchwinning goal of the league clinching another 3 points while Fozzie and co cashes in on another clean sheet. Another brilliant all round performance keeps the team on course to poll the highest points tally to date.
