Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
A similar situation to the Stur Crazy match (which was a huge sting in CBFC's side) arose in this game from the immediate outset. Steau Needarest, usually the side struggling at the bottom of the table had been on a winning run, with a 1-1 draw to the team in 1st place. Why? Because the side had a completely new set of players (minus a couple), all unscouted and unknown, Not allowed in the rules to use unregistered players the match still went ahead. With CBFC facing an unknown task half the side feeling unwell coupled with a first half of playing into the sun, the prospects of the game were anyone's guess.
Gonzo was the fourth player to reach a century of apps while Beaker made for sure this week he was making his 100th start.
Goal 0-1 // Steau Needarest
A quick counter, slack marking combined with a good bit of skill and a simple goal through Fozzie's legs brought on a need for an immediate fight to get back into the game.
Goal 0-2 // Steau Needarest
A lovely first time side foot finish across the goal from the corner doubled the lead.
Goal 1-2 // 10 A. Muppet - Assist 8 Big Bird
Needing something from somewhere Big Bird's lobbed through ball is headed on to perfection by one of the new Steau players as the ball carries through the defensive line. A. Muppet's acceleration and reaction time provides him with the chance to slot the ball into the bottom corner. A. Muppet scores his first goal of the season while keeping his record of scoring in every full season to date intact.
Big Bird's long distance strike needing a vital block after heading straight for the net. There was a clear danger off counter attacks as a CBFC corner proved. a counter on the wing was looking dangerous, needing Big Bird to shepherd the new Steau midfielder off target. Beaker himself was unlucky not to equalise after finding a pocket of space on the right side of the penalty area, coming from A. Muppet and Kermit's high pressure.
Goal 1-3 // Steau Needarest
With the CBFC players looking to get back into the game it was the counter attacking which cost the team again. A throw from the goalkeeper cleared all five of the outfield players leaving a free shot on goal. Fozzie did well to stop the shot but the rebound fell for one of the old Steau Needarest players to score the tap in.
Goal 1-4 // Steau Needarest
Despite holding a high line and not allowing Steau players within 30 yards of the goal tackles were breaking moves down until a pile up in the centre of the pitch left Gonzo caught short twice on the ball. The flick up fell for the Steau player while some messy touches and unclean finish had broken through undeserved. A kick in the teeth so soon into the second half.
Goal 1-5 // Steau Needarest
A goal conceded brought again by Steau players winning balls in CBFC's half, Kermit's pass to A. Muppet cut out, leaving the player with an easy route to goal. With 13 minutes left to play the scoring for Steau stopped there, with a thrashing failing to materialise.
With a view to scoring a second Kermit was tackled at the last second just before flicking the ball over the keeper. Big Bird brought down a ball from Beaker's kick in almost to perfection as the ball was just too close to the keeper. Sadly the score was too far out of reach with the two self-inflicted second half goals providing too much momentum to Steau Needarest, combined with an extra sub the shots and chances were falling for them even though nothing proved dangerous to Fozzie's goal.
A beautiful one two between Kermit and Big Bird through three Steau players one of the highlights of the half.
Goal 2-5 // 5 Gonzo - Assist 14 Kermit
Persistent work from Kermit earnt a kick in, Gonzo making a run into the centre of the penalty area calls for the cross. Quick work with the kick in as the ball is sent in, the striker tracking back launches the ball in the air. Gonzo is switched on to the flight of the ball acrobatically flicking the ball into the open net for the 50th goal of the league campaign. Both A. Muppet and Gonzo opening their accounts for the season in the same game coming as a pleasant surprise. STAT: The last time they both scored in a game was back on 2nd November 2010 against Obi Won Kenobi Nil.
Having built the lead Steau faded off, with a more defensive approach to close off the game Fozzie went 8 minutes without facing a shot, when it came he stopped it well. Gonzo was there to shield the ball diving with his arms out earning an amusing foul. CBFC a little too late had a wonderful chance to score a third coming off quick work from Kermit and Beaker again, the lovely dinked ball into the box was put on a plate for Big Bird, his initial jump and glancing header was inches past the post. A higher jump would have seen the net bulge. Gonzo shot from well inside his own half, needing the keeper to making a well watched save off the dipping shot. Chef's a bit short on the header off the following kick in as the match tailed off.
