Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
With both sides facing each other in a top of the table clash, no doubt Fozzie was facing more work in goal than the previous weeks as he comfortably dealt with some initial shots, Big Bird in the right place to mop up any danger. Chef was the closest to open the scoring and needed a great last ditch tackle to stop his inevitable goal that only just crept past the post for a corner. The record for conceding should have been ended in the fifth minute, A. Muppet's sloppy play gifting possession away allowed a winger to provide a cross into the box. Kermit's clearance fell kindly to the forward in the box, at such a close range Fozzie kneeling on the floor from the cross made a top class instinctive save to force the shot onto the bar.
Oscar having rare back to back appearances was unlucky not to setup A. Muppet after the two combined in the corner area. Kermit already having a great fifteen minutes blocking numerous passes, he did just that to break through the midfield undertaking a usual forward run with the ball deep into the other half having his shot deflected for a corner. Only having a minutes rest on the sidelines Chef was back on the pitch and could have scored his first header within a second of the restart, in behind the first man he needed his head just a centimetre closer to the goal to flick the ball past the keeper.
Like their opposing comrades Shoot Off Site were struggling to shoot on site, their finishing was poor for the amount of chances they had created. More so with Fozzie on form their prospects of scoring looked bleak and a third consecutive clean sheet looked promising. The post and crossbar found some love from the ball, Gonzo's block carried a shot onto the crossbar, Fozzie brushed a shot onto the post and dived well onto a low shot as he went another half without conceding.
Swedish Chef after high pressure to win the ball was past the defender, trying to open his body up to shoot into the far corner there was utter failure in keeping the shot on target, which looked costly.
Goal 0-1 // Shoot Off Site
A new record of 81 minutes was set for longest time played without conceding a goal, not bad for a team known to leak plenty of goals. Unfortunately after riding the first half pressure the early goal in the second half was a killer. Crafted with a piece of skill Fozzie saved the first shot however some bad luck saw the ball bounce across goal for a rebound, this time the player who previously missed a sitter managed to knock the ball into the net.
It was a tough match to create any decent opening, Beaker worked himself some room only for his shot having a block to take the pace off the ball for the keeper. That being said a couple of decisions did not go CBFC's way, a foul outside the box was brushed aside with no advantage given either. A good move winning the ball back a combination of Chef, Beaker and Kermit had almost cut through the defence in a quality quick passing move that the team needs to produce more of.
Goal 0-2 // Shoot Off Site
Game over after conceding for the second time, Gonzo's clearance finds A. Muppet but his bad pass is pounced upon, the forward running player scores at Fozzie's near post.
CBFC Penalty Appeal
A lifeline to somehow scrape perhaps a draw out of the match was denied when a stonewall penalty was not given by the referee. Big Bird's quick kick in picked out Chef, for the return pass the defender got a touch on the ball to send it rolling towards his own goal, as Chef gives chase the defender stops the ball going out for a corner intending for his keeper to pick up the ball a fraction of a second later, a clear showing of the backpass rule and a penalty should have been awarded.
With a full practice / friendly game the day before a number of the players were feeling the effects, considering the opposition were top of the league and on a high after recent thrashings of other teams in the division. After CBFC kept the opponents to no shots on target the previous week, the tables had turned on this match where the Shoot Off Site goalkeeper had an easy night, Big Bird and Oscar both tried. Bizarrely the goals had been scored in the easier half for Fozzie in goal.
Ultimately there was a real lack of danger up front and creative power cost CBFC against a better side playing the pass and move game. Nevertheless the attitude shown to stay in the match right until the end showed a resilience that bodes well for the rest of the season. A season or so before this match could well have been lost by a larger margin showing just how far the team has come.
