Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
With first and second place already having won and the team in fourth playing bottom afterwards, the pressure was on in this match to get a result. After a couple minutes of exchanging play it was a hopeful long ball from the keeper over Kermit's head to the TDFC defender to find himself with the first chance of the game however the difficult outside of the boot volley across goal was too much to ask.
Beaker went to punish the defender's miss timing looking to cross the ball into the box with his cross turning into a shot the keeper quickly initiated a counter attack. Rizzo needing to win the header at the front post to put it at best out for a corner, comically the ball was heading for the top corner of his own net if not for the crossbar. Big Bird was beaten to the ball by the forward fortunate in setting his teammate up for a shot but Fozzie was up quick and there in the right place to keep his side level.
Both sides boasted beastly defensive records both teams second and third best in the league, this reflected in the match with neither side looking likely to score. Kermit on the other hand almost did after Rizzo found him deep in the opponents half, the keeper out early, the volley taken early, the score not budging. Swedish Chef should of done better when his chance came, after working himself a shot from Fozzie's goalkick and keeping the ball in play debatably, he failed to find the far corner or the alert Rizzo running into the box.
As the attacking pressure started to awaken and with an almost identical chance to his earlier one, Kermit having rode through two challenges hit another shot inches past the far post with his left foot. Rizzo found himself with only a speculative shot on the turn near the end of a half.
TDFC swapped their usual number one in goal with a place in defence; clearly the move was working as chances were few and far between. Chef had the best chance when put through on goal by Rizzo but with his back to goal he tried to be a bit too clever in his execution. One of these chances needed a conversion and the keeper was worked for the first time in the 21st minute, Gonzo on the free kick played a pass through the centre for Chef to turn and shoot at the rightly positioned keeper.
After seventeen minutes of little joy TDFC got slightly fortunate on the corner after Beaker, Chef and Gonzo all tried to clear the danger but the ball persistently fell for the attacker. With Fozzie on top looking for his third clean sheet of the season, another strong save was made.
The match was entering the final quarter, a quick kick in by Rizzo picked out Chef but the pass across goal to Big Bird was blocked and the follow up shot across goal was too narrow an angle.
Goal 1-0 // 17 Swedish Chef - Assist 12 Rizzo
With his first touch of the half Big Bird sends a ball into the TDFC half for Rizzo from the kick in, which in turn he controls the ball, turns and squares it to Swedish Chef. After evading two tackles and cutting back inside his shot inside the post was too quick for the keeper to stop while Rizzo makes a nuisance of himself in front of the keeper's vision to help the team find a way of scoring an important goal in a scrappy match. Chef's fifth consecutive goal (and in all matches) against TDFC.
Big Bird flicked the ball over the defenders tackle to create space for a shot through most of the players on the pitch needing the keeper to clear the ball. With numbers in attack the team were susceptible to a counter and low and behold that was the case. The two furthest forward TDFC players linked up well to get in behind Big Bird and Beaker needing Fozzie to quickly move towards the player, closing down the angles to make what was a very, very important save. Beaker on the follow up shot got in the way blocking the balls route to goal with his shoulder.
Penalty to Cillit Bang FC
After Rizzo and Kermit pass to each other on the corner Rizzo tries a shot from a narrow angle on goal only to receive the ball back from the rebound off the keeper's save, as he shields the ball the defender kicks into the back of him, going down the referee blows his whistle for the penalty.
Penalty Miss - Cillit Bang FC
Rizzo similar to his previous penalties (both converted), this time the shot more down the centre giving the keeper a simple enough save, Rizzo fouls on the follow up ending his scoring streak of 9 games. Thankfully this time the ramifications of the miss were minor.
In a match full of little quality the team earn their third clean sheet of the season with another 1-0 win; it was not pretty but Cillit Bang FC found a way to win.
