Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
Goal 0-1 // Why Always Me
From the goalkeepers kick, Gonzo's interception and intended lofted ball down pitch to the unmarked Oscar was blocked by the closest player to Gonzo with the arm. With the handball not given Why Always Me came forward however Rizzo dispossesses the striker on the wing. Now on the ball Kermit's pass back to Rizzo is intercepted, so quickly tracking back immediately to make a tackle the striker was thereby forced close to the line. Somehow he managed to pass the ball into the net at the near post.
The team in the league above finishing just above the relegation zone were the better side in the early periods of the match. Crafting and creating more attacks only a few blocked shots from Rizzo and Oscar looked anywhere near threatening. Despite a few attacks lacking the final bit of something to really put any pressure on.
Goal 1-1 // 12 Rizzo - Free Kick
Upon winning the foul Rizzo lines up to the free kick, the positioning of the two man wall leaves a massive gap on the right side of the goal to aim at. Placing the shot at pace, the shot is converted after curling to the right of the wall.
Conceding the goal a response was instant and the side groaned in despair with the chance of taking the lead at the end of the half. The defender nutmegging Gonzo before horribly skewing the shot wide.
CBFC should of taken the lead after Oscar's tackle found itself land straight to Rizzo. The chest control taking the ball a tad too close to the goal with the keeper doing well to smother the volley at close range. As a little pressure was applied, so happened a lack of numbers at the back. With four attackers Gonzo was left to fend off an attack of 3 players. Thankfully the golden chance to score was not taken with a volley off target. Oscar was the next victim when it came to scuppering a great chance to score. With Kermit doing well to keep the ball in, a lovely pass down the wing was perfect for the left footed strike across goal. The right foot caused the ball to spin away from goal. Rizzo's turn to push for the goal. Beaker's ball forward was headed upwards by Oscar, Rizzo won the ball knocked the ball sideways past the defender before firing wide. The chances were coming think and fast and someone needed to take a chance.
The goal kick headed on the halfway line was heading towards the open goal, however the bounce before took the ball over the bar. It looked close however Fozzie had it covered despite the drama. Back on the attack a lovely one two between Rizzo and Beaker produced a header on goal. The chance one of the harder ones to get on target nonetheless a great move.
The game was equal and great goalkeeping had kept Why Always Me with a chance of the game. With Fozzie making his first save moments earlier the play was reset to the halfway line. With Swedish Chef nicking the ball off the last man, both himself and Rizzo had the simple chance of beating the keeper. With Chef off form in recent weeks his decision to square the ball was perhaps the wrong option and also executed too early. Rizzo opted to control the ball first before shooting, allowing the keeper to set himself to block the shot. Something was majorly up in this game or the penalty shootout was destined to be.
The misses kept coming, A. Muppet's kick in to the backpost was headed by Rizzo at a tight angle to goal, the save was made and the push away clearance from Rizzo fell to Chef, however the instinctive shot was too high for Chef to get his foot over the ball as the shot came and went. A touch was all that was needed. Great defending from the Why Always Me player denied both Oscar and Chef upon a swift counter attack started from Fozzie's clearance, Rizzo's excellent pass onto Oscar's central run forward whereby the ball just would not come out from under his feet.
Goal 1-2 // Why Always Me
With five minutes left on the clock, yes FIVE MINUTES away from the next best thing after winning was the penalty shootout. From a goalkick the ball was worked to the right side of the penalty area, the shot was dug out from the feet into the side netting on the far post. A smash and grab and utter robbery after the dominance of the second half. Those missed chances had proved crucial. The drama of the penalty shootout was now down to an equaliser, something which CBFC were clearly not allowed to have.
A lack of cool composure in the last few minutes as all hands were on deck to score the equaliser. Gonzo was the closest turning around the outside of the defender, upon completion he would of had the chance to have the last laugh, the defender's slight nick was enough to prod the ball away. Rizzo after becoming frustrated with Chef's rubbish display in a couple of attacks had the last shot at goal before receiving a nasty collision for his efforts.
The season ended in more disappointed. The only comfort coming from the progression of the sides results in both league and cup.
