Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
Up against it from the go, the side with more than a 50% league clean sheet record all season against a side depleted in goal scoring having a shocker of a season albeit a with better looking line-up for a few months. AECC passing until the cows came home went forward in packs of 3's and 4's often overplaying, Fozzie made plenty of simple saves, the woodwork was rattled yet not to dangerous shots. You could not fault the effort from the side bottom of the table, plenty of tackles and interceptions were made, Gonzo when he came on was barely beaten with his reading of the game. Halfway into the half the deadlock was broken with a scrappy goal and that was that you felt, Big Bird was inches away from blocking the goalscoring shot after Fozzie made the save.
Failing to keep track of their men you could put that down to tiredness even in the first half. Everytime the ball would bounce out of the area or up field, the ball came straight back in seconds, the clearances most of the time just helping for about 2-3 seconds before the pressure was back on, more often than not an AECC player was winning every second ball, when you are so dominant the luck is there in bucketfuls.
Unfortunately under the cosh to a far superior possession of the ball side the panic that was instilled into the opposition was a killer for most of the game. Having to work hard to keep track of the ball took more than 90% of the time, the 10% luxury with the ball was jaded with pressure, when the chance came it was wasted time and time again. The feeling of AECC players breathing down the players necks was there to see in the player's actions with a sense of urgency in all attacks when really it was not needed. Although AECC were a great passing side the gaps in defence with no real recognised defenders was something to exploit. The odds on player to threaten the goal, Kermit, was indeed the player who could have chalked a goal, the post rattled for the umpteenth time of the match whereas Oscar cleverly went to lob the keeper around the halfway line, his effort needing a little extra height to miss the outstretched keeper's fingers. It wasn't a bad game for Fozzie, playing well when the opposition is of a higher class pulling off a string of great saves with a tad bit of showboating to boot.
