Detailed Synopsis of the match with team news with a few screenshots from the game.
Both sides started with shots off target Big Bird's shots blocked looked promising had it got through. Rizzo went close with a header on target from the corner. Not long after and the first of the games decisions from the referee were under fire. A bad touch was picked up by the keeper, a quick blow of the whistle combined with the reactions of the Jabalani's players and you could see they found themselves unlucky to concede the free kick. Defended well but another problem for JL arose not long after with Rizzo lunging in on the defenders ankle after he came striding towards goal, he was forced out of the rest of the game with the injury.
Goal 0-1 // 4 Beaker - Assist 5 Gonzo
Gonzo intercepts a pass forward laying off the ball to Beaker. Opening himself up his placed effort at the goal is mishandled by the keeper as the ball bounces in.
Beaker went close sidefooting the ball back across goal after receiving the ball off A. Muppet's infield pass. After supplying his teammate it was A. Muppet's turn at goal, Rizzo's downfield floor pass was perfect however his attempted chip was miscued, the follow up was taken at a tight angle with just a defender on the line. Rizzo at the end of the half was put through on goal with the keeper to beat coming off his line. The lobbed attempt beat keeper and sadly the bar.
Jabalani's Legacy Penalty Appeal
JL still passed the ball around yet chances did not open up for them, Fozzie was having a relatively quiet half. He was perhaps unlucky to escape unscathed on a penalty appeal for JL, there was a tangle with the defender, the referee could have blown for both sides. Play went on. The referee was coming under increasing pressure from Jabalani's complaints. A few dubious decisions were scrutinised and the Jabalani players were becoming exasperated over most decisions.
Goal 1-1 // Jabalani's Legacy - Own Goal 1 Fozzie
The shot just outside the box was strong but going over, Fozzie got his hands to the shot however with the ball arching up and down towards the goal Fozzie tried to catch the ball before it crossed the line. The slip proved costly, the goal originating from the defender Fozzie had an exchange of words with in the box minutes ago.
Early into the second half and CBFC should have taken the lead, either from A. Muppet's run and shot into the side netting or from the better chance with a 3 on 1. Kermit shot across goal missing the target.
Goal 2-1 // 5 Gonzo - Assist 10 A. Muppet
A low driven corner finds itself slipping past 3 players to leave Gonzo a free goal to aim for after his late run into the box comes to fruition.
To keep the lead a number of crosses had to be dealt with in a barrage of attacks, Fozzie did the blocking in most cases and the counter was on should a ball fall outside the area. The counter came yet Rizzo could not get the desired connection on his left foot shot.
Goal 3-1 // 14 Kermit - Assist 12 Rizzo
With Gonzo breaking down a dangerous counter attack off the corner Rizzo combined with Kermit to break through the defensive line. Fortunate in the rebounds off both defenders the keeper was well on top as he charged out to shut out the space available. Fortunate again after the save found its way out to Kermit, a carefully taken shot at the open goal added to the opposition's early half miseries.
Goal 3-2 // Jabalani's Legacy
No time for moping JL picked up the ball in the opposite half, cutting inside the scorer was too fast to handle, his shot hard, low unable to be stopped.
Goal 3-3 // Jabalani's Legacy
Jabalani's were back in for some league points within minutes. The goalkick into the scorer's path was controlled with the arm, handball was not given despite an appeal. However with 3 players behind the ball it was too easy for the player to score yet again under no pressure.
Goal 3-4 // Jabalani's Legacy
The goals had caused concern in the CBFC ranks; desperate to regain the lead a hastily taken kick in was quickly broken upon. The player on fire had the ball again on the run cutting back inside on his right foot too quick for the defence to handle and yet again almost broke the net.
After throwing away the lead after looking strong enough for the 3 points straight from kick off the team should have equalised with not one but two efforts back to back. Rizzo hit the first shot onto the post with the outside of his right boot. Coming on to the rebound with the keeper planted in the centre of the goal yet again he chose to shoot with the right boot when the left was the better option. Keeper made the save. JL hit back with the hattrick player on fire capitalising on a mistake driving towards goal destroying the post with another piledriver.
CBFC Penalty Appeal
With four players in attack Beaker passed the ball inside the penalty area to Kermit, the scorer of the previous 3 goals charging in took a swipe at the ball, missed taking a dig at Kermit's ankle instead. The referee was about to blow as he allowed advantage to be played but not enough to withdraw his whistle, a vital decision with just minutes left going against CBFC this time. Jabalani's Legacy with a slice of luck getting off with a decision there but not after forgetting they had a penalty appeal of their own go against them in the first half.
Lovely skill from Beaker skilfully flicking the ball around the tackler with a shot on target easily saved.
Goal 3-5 // Jabalani's Legacy
A poor goalkick intercepted left a two on one against Big Bird, isolated the pace of attack was too quick again as Chris knocks the ball back across Fozzie's goal to score against the side he played and scored for once before.
It could have been six if not for a wonderful strong save by Fozzie as he pushes away a shot back across his path. To keep the ball out while moving the other way on his goalline was appreciated by the teams on the sidelines waiting for their match afterwards. Jabalani's Legacy beat CBFC for the first time and deserved the points after second half positional changes prove the deciding factor after going behind and riding a late in the half nailed on penalty. CBFC's downfall was not taking advantage of an abundance of great chances mixed with the team's defenders left isolated on numerous occasions in the second half.
